2021 public goals

On January 23rd, 2021 in Myself

Every December in my group therapy we review our goals of the current year that ends and define new goals for the next year. These activities didn’t happen last year for I was not living anymore in Brazil (and also due to my lack of organization and will).

2020 wasn’t a very productive year during the second semester. My plans didn’t go as I had thought and I believe that happened due to the lack of a routine in my life.

This year I decided to make things different by writing my goals down and also making them public. I also believe this will make me more aware of my steps.

Goals for 2021:

  1. Write down my projects and researches in this blog;
  2. Be able to have a daily conversation in Japanese;
  3. Have all my photos edited. Have some of them at Shutterstock;
  4. Have Home Assistant fully functional at home with some automations concluded;
  5. Have a NAS server running with all our data organized;
  6. Learn to write in Arduino and make some DIY projects;
  7. Do periodical physical exercises;
  8. Meditate;
  9. Read more books;

I also have some private goals (like world peace), of course, which won’t make them public.

1. Write down my projects

The first step was to start again this blog. While working at advertising agencies, I used to write on Twitter, Facebook and on this blog. I quit doing that after started working as a public servant.

I also noticed that I’ve been reading, studying and thinking a lot about many subjects for last months, but my writing skills are becoming worse and worse everyday due to the lack of practice. Practicing will improve my writing skills and help me remember what I will have lived in 2021.

Writing in english is additional achievements for my writing project. I expect to improve my writing skills in English by the end of the year.

Start and ending period: starting now until the end of the year
How often: once a week, at least
How: writing this blog

2. Be able to have a daily conversation in Japanese

I’ve been living in Japan for the last 10 months and still can’t have a conversation in Japanese. I can understand the subject of the conversation, but neither can I fully comprehend it and nor can I reply.

Start and ending period: starting now until the end of the year
How often: 3 hours per week
How: studying grammar books, listening to music and reading song lyrics, watching TV, eg. anime

3. Have all my photos edited

I have taken thousands of photos but have yet to edit on Lightroom. I want to complete editing them until the end of the year. I also want to submit some of them to Shutterstock.

Start and ending period: from March until August (for editing), from March until December (for submitting them)
How often: 4 hours per week
How: editing on Lightroom

4. Have Home Assistant fully functional

I already began testing and configuring my Home Assistant. The learning curve is quite long and I’m still at the beginning. My basic setup is almost ready, but I wish I could have it fully functional until the middle of the year.

Start and ending period: starting now until July
How often: as often as possible
How: studying, editing and implementing devices

5. Have a NAS server running

We have a lot of files at home due photos and videos. For some years I’ve been thinking of trying (again) to make a NAS Server using TrueNAS.

Start and ending period: starting now until February
How often: as often as possible
How: studying, buying devices and implementing
them

6. Learn how to write in Arduino

I already began my studies on my starter kit and it’s going well, but I wish I could make some nice and useful projects on Arduino for home automation and IoT devices.

I plan to implement 6 devices until the end of the year.

Start and ending period: from February until the end of the year
How often: once week, at least.
How: creating projects for home automation

7. Physical exercises

I’m getting old, I’m fat and my body hurts. Period.

Start and ending period: starting now until the end of the year
How often: 3 times a week for at least 45 minutes each
How: Ashtanga Yoga
, walking and Lian Gong Shi Ba Fa

8. Meditate

When I was younger, I practiced Kriya Yoga after reading “Autobiography of a Yogi” and it was a nice experience. After graduation I never again searched for this practice.

Years later, I started having headaches almost everyday, and teeth grinding at night. I tried again meditating and found out that it’s a effective treatment for these new problems.

Start and ending period: starting now until the end of the year
How often: 3 times a week
How: try different sort of meditation styles until finding one that fits me better

9. Reading books

2020 was a shameful year for reading. In 2019 I read 15 books. In 2020 I read only 4 books.

Reading is a pleasant moment in my life and I want to resume this habit.

Start and ending period: starting now until the end of the year
How often: daily
How: read 24 books this year or 2 books every month
